Personal Care at Home in Luton

Personal care is the most intimate support we provide, and the hardest for most people to accept. Nobody wants to need help getting into the shower.

How that help is given makes all the difference. Our carers work at your pace, explain what they are doing, offer you choices, and preserve your privacy throughout. You stay in charge.

What personal care covers

  • Washing and bathing — full baths, showers, or a wash at the basin, whatever you prefer and can manage safely
  • Dressing and undressing — including choosing what to wear
  • Continence support — discreet help with the toilet, continence products and catheter care
  • Oral care — teeth, dentures and mouth care
  • Skin care — creams, checking pressure areas, spotting sores early
  • Grooming — shaving, hair, nails
  • Getting up and going to bed — morning and evening calls
  • Mobility support — moving safely, transfers, using hoists where needed
  • Medication — prompting, assisting or administering, fully recorded

How visits work

Visits run from 30 minutes up to several hours, and up to four visits a day. A typical pattern is a morning call to get up, washed and dressed with breakfast and medication; a lunch call; a teatime call; and a bedtime call. Many people start with just one.

Your care plan is written with you, not handed to you. It records how you like things done — which soap, whether you shower or wash, whether you want the radio on. Small preferences matter enormously when someone else is doing something you used to do yourself.

Who this suits

  • Older people finding washing and dressing difficult or unsafe
  • Anyone recovering from illness, surgery or a fall
  • People with a physical disability, or long-term conditions like Parkinson’s, MS or arthritis
  • People recently discharged from hospital
  • Anyone whose family carer needs support

We support adults 18 and over, including younger adults with physical or learning disabilities.

Cost and funding

The cost depends on how much support you need and how often. After a free, no-obligation assessment we give you a clear, itemised quote — no pressure and no hidden extras. Call 01582 453 800 and we will talk it through honestly.

Attendance Allowance is not means-tested. If you are over State Pension age and need help with personal care, you may be entitled regardless of savings. A lot of people who qualify never claim it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask for a female carer?

Yes, always. A preference for a male or female carer for personal care is completely reasonable and we record it in your care plan.

What is the shortest visit you do?

30 minutes. Very short visits rarely allow personal care to be done unhurriedly, and rushing someone through a wash is how dignity gets lost.

Can you help with a hoist?

Yes. Where a hoist or two carers are needed, we assess and arrange it. Moving and handling training is mandatory for all our staff.
